DINNER AT THE BAR : Leuca In Brooklyn

Dinner At The Bar is a series that started with date night. After a long week, my husband and I like to unwind with good food and drinks, and we discovered there is something magical about sitting at the bar. There is an intimacy and casualness about it, and perched high on our chairs, we can see all of the action. It’s become our weekly ritual.


Leuca is one of our favorites in the neighborhood and feels like coming home. The Manager, Giovanna, and Bartender, Angelo, have remembered us since our first meal there and welcome us back with smiles and a quick catch up every time we walk through the door. They also know our favorite bar seats and always try to make sure they are free, and know exactly which wine we like.

As you can see, it’s a big bar and we love to cozy up in the leather stools with one of the lamps between us, and a side view of the bar area and everyone coming in. You can tell these guys are seasoned restauranteurs simply by the decor- there is a level of refinement and sophistication that is perfectly balanced with comfort for a space that feels really good to be in.

All of the food is inspired by Coastal Italy with house-made pastas and wood-fired dishes. Their wine list is extensive and sophisticated so I always look forward to settling in with a glass of red. A must have is their “La Scarpett’s” – southern Italian dips served with pane siciliano, and in particular, the Sheep’s Milk Ricotta with Hot Honey & Garlic. From there, we love the pastas and fish, and the pizza when we’re wanting something more casual. We’re not big dessert eaters, but we always have the Sicilian Pistachio Cake with Olive Oil Gelato. YUM!
